Resources

We are fortunate to live in a community that is collaborating to share a wealth of resources, both written and photographic, about the experience of local African-Americans.  Additional materials that highlight the important role African-Americans have played in Henderson County are always welcome.

In compiling this website we drew heavily on:

  • African-Americans in our community who generously shared photos, memories, recipes and memorabilia for this website.
  • A Brief History of the Black Presence in Henderson County, A book prepared by the Black History Research Committee of Henderson County with Gary Franklin Greene, Biltmore Press, Asheville, 1996
